At home
- Turn of the lights when you are not in the rooms
- use energysaving lightbulbs, at least in the uk they are also very cheap if you shop around and sometimes even given out for free
- don't let anything stay on standby like pc, tv and so on
- Just use the heater in rooms where you are most
- shop around for gas and electricity companies
- if you buy new goods try to check their usage, I onces bought a slow cooker as it is very practical but it raised up my electricity usage for more then 20p every day I used it
- Defreeze your fridge / freezer regulary
Groceries
- make a shopping list and stick to it
- be careful with offers as they are not always as good as they seem to be
- if different packet sizes are available check price per 100 g per packet seize
- if you find a good deal buy in bulk but just if you surely use it a lot otherwise you will end up throwing food away
- don't be to posh, buy supermarket own brands, they are not that bad as some of you might think
- don't go to do your groceries when you are in a hurry, take your time
- if you have vouchers be sure that you really make a good deal as sometimes other similar products from other brands will still be cheaper
Children / Baby
- don't just buy pampers, other nappy brands are as good as them
- children and baby furniture, pushchairs and so on can be bought in excellent condition at ebay
- specially bigger toys like for the garden can also be bought at ebay
- I buy the clothes which are just for outside usually in charity shops as they don't stay nice for long anyway
- there are a lot of free activities for children available, go and find out whats going on in your area
Car
- Shop around for car insurance, don't stick to the same company but compare every year
- find out if your daily commute is cheaper by public transport
- if you are a family with two cars think about if you really need them
- if you buy a new car consider its petrol usage and check the insurance price first
